What we actually found
The 800MT-X is CFMOTO's most dedicated off-road machine yet, addressing the top-heavy criticism of previous touring models. By adopting low-slung, split saddle fuel tanks wrapping around the crankcase, it carries its 22.5 litres of fuel low down, giving it the slow-speed balance and agility of a much lighter motorcycle. The KTM-derived 799cc parallel twin is explosive on open trails while cruising smoothly at motorway speeds. It's still a 220kg motorcycle when buried to the axles in boggy peat, but on flowing gravel tracks, rocky ascents, and open green lanes, it offers a lot of performance for the money.
Pros for green laning
- Low-slung 22.5-litre saddle tanks: distributes fuel mass low beside the engine base, reducing top-heavy wobble during standing balance manoeuvres.
- Full-size 21"/18" tubeless wheels: direct access to hardcore enduro tyre patterns with quick roadside tubeless puncture repair capability.
- Fully adjustable 48mm forks: heavy-duty front and rear suspension provides 230mm of travel and 240mm of ground clearance.
- Strong 95hp twin performance: delivers effortless 70+ mph highway transits between distant lane networks with standard cruise control and quickshifter.
Cons and limitations
- 220kg wet weight: heavy to lift solo after a tumble in deep ruts or boggy peat bogs.
- Wide lower tank pods: low fuel lobes make paddling through narrow, high-banked ruts tighter.
- Firm one-piece rally seat: designed for active standing mobility, making seated motorway miles firm on the rider.
- Complex screen menus: navigating the large vertical TFT display to deactivate rear ABS takes practice with muddy winter gloves.

Remember: a rank here assumes reasonable stock tyres and a competent rider in decent conditions. The right tyres, or the wrong weather, can move a lane from easy to genuinely hard regardless of what bike you're on. Check a lane's own difficulty and hazards on the map before you go, don't rely on a bike score alone.
