Hazards & notes
Tap legal lanes on the map or in the list to add them, in order. Road links between lanes are routed automatically where possible, each one is labelled if it's a real road route or just a straight-line estimate.
Google Maps can only route you there on roads, it can't follow the lanes themselves. Download the combined GPX below to actually navigate the linked lanes in a GPX-capable app.

Using Holloway
Find a lane
Search by name or area in the top bar, or just browse the map. The difficulty and route type chips in the sidebar narrow both the map and the list. "Graded only" hides lanes nobody has checked yet, "Hide closed" hides anything currently closed.
Your bike and experience
Set "Show me: up to..." to your comfort level. Tick "Heavier or loaded adventure bike" or "New to green laning" if either applies, each drops the ceiling by one grade, and both stack. You can still fine-tune with the chips below afterwards.
Check a lane before you ride
Tap a lane on the map or in the list for its full detail: length, surface, hazards, current weather, legal status and any closure. On the map, solid coloured lines are legal to ride and colour shows difficulty, dashed grey lines are not legal for motor vehicles and shown for reference only.
Plan a route
Tap "Plan route", then tap legal lanes on the map or in the list to add them in order. Reorder or remove them in the route panel, see the total distance, then download a combined GPX or get directions to the first lane in Google Maps. Restricted byways and other non-legal lanes can't be added.
Get lanes onto your device
Download a single lane's GPX from its detail card. Menu > "Export shown lanes as GPX" exports everything currently on screen, filters and search narrow this down, so searching a county name and exporting gives you that county. Install Holloway (Menu, or your browser's own install prompt) to use it offline.
Track what you've ridden
Tap "Mark as ridden" on a lane's detail card. See everything you've ridden, with a running total distance, in Menu > "My ridden lanes".
Find yourself on the map
Tap "Near me" to track your live position, this needs location permission and works best outdoors on a phone. No GPS, or a laptop giving a rough fix? Use "Or search by postcode" in the sidebar instead.
Suggest a missing lane
Menu > "Suggest a missing lane" opens a small toolbar over the map. Drag with a mouse or your finger to trace roughly where it runs, Undo or Clear to fix a mistake, then "Done" opens a short form for the lane's name and why you think it's legal to ride, if you know either. A moderator reviews it, if approved it appears on the map as a member-added lane, shown in its own colour and clearly marked as unverified until someone checks it properly.
Settings
Menu > "Settings" switches every distance on screen between km and miles, GPX files always stay in km regardless. It also has a "Clear ridden history" button if you ever want to start that log over.
Legal & data
Route types
BOAT, Byway Open to All Traffic, legal to ride.
UCR, Unclassified County Road, legal to ride.
ORPA, Other Route with Public Access, legal to ride.
Restricted byway, not legal for motor vehicles, shown for reference and route planning around, not on.
Member-added, submitted by a rider and approved by a moderator, but not independently verified against a definitive map. Usable for route planning like the others, always check it's legal to ride and check current conditions yourself first.
Coverage is England and Wales only. Scotland has different access law and no BOAT or definitive-map system, off-tarmac riding there is likely trespassing, this app deliberately doesn't cover it.
Graded vs raw
Lanes tagged "not yet graded" are imported straight from OpenStreetMap with a placeholder difficulty and no hazard notes. Graded lanes have been checked and rated by hand, that grading is the real work this app adds on top of the raw map data.
Closures
"Closed" is a temporary Traffic Regulation Order on top of an otherwise legal lane, it can reopen. "Permanently closed" means the lane's legal status itself has been withdrawn, it's no longer a legal route regardless of what it used to be. Both are maintained by hand, there is no live TRO feed, always check current signage.

Something wrong?
Use "Report this lane looks wrong" on any lane's detail card, or email hollowayapp@gmail.com directly. "Suggest a difficulty grade" on the same card is the place for grading feedback specifically, ridden it and think the grade's off, or it's marked "not yet graded"? That's the one to use.
Legal
This traced path will go to a moderator for review. If approved, it's added to the map as a member-added lane, clearly marked as unverified until someone checks it against a definitive map, it's never treated the same as a confirmed BOAT or UCR.
