What Holloway is
Holloway is a green lane map and app for motorcyclists, at rideholloway.com. It shows byways open to all traffic (BOATs), unclassified county roads (UCRs) and restricted byways, each labelled with its recorded legal type, so a rider can see which lanes are open to motorcycles and which are not.
Holloway also shows closures, seasonal closures and traffic orders on lanes, grades lanes by difficulty, and lets riders plan a route linking several lanes, download it as a GPX file, navigate it lane by lane, and record their ride.
*Open to motorcycles by recorded designation. Check signs and current traffic orders before you ride.

Who runs Holloway
Mat Stuckey founded Holloway and runs it. He has ridden motorcycles for 25 years and green laned for around 8, and grades lanes for Holloway on a Voge 300 Rally. Holloway is a trading name of MLS Ventures Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16306630), based in Bedford.
Where the data comes from
Holloway's legal status data comes from public records, checked by hand:
- Every council's definitive map of rights of way, through rowmaps.com, under the Open Government Licence.
- Council lists of public roads, and council traffic orders and closure lists.
- Ordnance Survey's OS Open Roads, to confirm which roads are public.
- OpenStreetMap, for the line of each lane and its surface.
- Ireland's Local Road Network, from the Road Management Office and local authorities.
Riders report closures and suggest grades from any lane, and a moderator checks every report before it changes the map. How we check our lane data explains the checks in full.
What's free and what's Premium
The map, every lane's legal type and any closure are free with an email sign-in. Holloway Premium, £20 a year, adds lane details such as difficulty and surface, weather and a mud forecast, route planning, GPX downloads and navigation. £1 from every membership goes toward keeping lanes open and supporting the people who look after them.
What Holloway doesn't cover
Holloway does not show lanes in Scotland as open to motorcycles, because Scotland's access law does not give motor vehicles the same rights on unsurfaced routes. It does not replace checking signs and current traffic orders on the day: legal status can change at short notice.
