Places worth a stop

A granite memorial cross on Dartmoor marking a supposed medieval burial, tied to the legend of a nobleman who died in a snowstorm after sheltering inside his gutted horse, with rival monks racing to claim his body and the estate promised to whoever buried him.
A twin 20-metre waterfall on Dartmoor's Becka Brook, originally marked on Ordnance Survey maps as Becka Falls until the site was renamed after being developed into a woodland tourist attraction.
A Bronze Age monument on Dartmoor of four concentric stone rings that once surrounded a burial cairn, restored in 1921 and confirmed accurate by a geophysical survey in 2008.
Two Bronze Age stone circles on Dartmoor set almost exactly north to south of each other, restored in 1909 after many stones had fallen, their name recalling a folk tale of a farmer duped into buying them as sheep.
A Dartmoor roadside grave traditionally said to hold a servant girl denied burial in consecrated ground after taking her own life, kept mysteriously supplied with fresh flowers by an unknown hand and said to have influenced elements of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
A twin-topped granite tor on Dartmoor's eastern edge, whose quarries supplied stone for the 1831 rebuilding of London Bridge and which was later used as a film location for 1953's Knights of the Round Table and a Tour of Britain cycling finish.
Devon's only surviving Neolithic dolmen, three granite pillars near Drewsteignton supporting a heavy capstone, which collapsed in 1862 and was re-erected the same year.

A former micaceous haematite mine north of Bovey Tracey, Dartmoor's last working mine until it closed in 1969, its mineral once processed into the rust-proof paint used on the Royal Albert Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
A Bronze Age ceremonial landscape on Dartmoor with three stone rows, cairns and hut circles, dominated by the tallest standing stone on the moor, a 14-foot menhir toppled at some point in history and re-erected in 1893.
