An Elizabethan merchant's house of around 1575 in Totnes, restored by the town council and opened as a museum in 1961, with a gallery devoted to computing pioneer Charles Babbage, who grew up in the town.
One of England's best-preserved Norman motte and bailey castles, raised in wood by Juhel of Totnes around 1067 and rebuilt in stone in the 14th century, its shell keep still overlooking the town and the River Dart.
A Tudor mansion built within the ruins of a 15th century Pomeroy castle, remodelled into a fashionable house by the Seymour family from the 1560s before being abandoned by the 1690s, now a romantic ruin with a lasting reputation for hauntings.
